-Fine Arts-Architecture-

As a young professional with a background in both Fine Arts and Architecture, I bring a unique perspective to the design process. I am able to communicate my own artistic visions, engage with other artists and creative-minded people on abstract concepts, and simultaneously honor the functional goals of an occupiable, architectural space.

I earned my Master of Architecture (M.Arch) from Parsons School of Design in May of 2024. Throughout my graduate studies, I was exposed to a series of complex design challenges that expanded my approach to architectural problem-solving. I gained essential knowledge regarding the design process and developed the skills necessary to research and evaluate urban infrastructure in order to propose a healthier, sustainable, and more equitable future.

My academic experience also honed my ability to give and receive critical feedback, which was further strengthened through my time serving as a recitation instructor / teaching assistant for undergraduate design classes. I am comfortable engaging in open communication about the successes and challenges of a design project, and firmly believe that the collaborative nature of my design education has prepared me to facilitate reflective discussions amongst other design professionals.

In addition to my architectural training, I also studied Fine Arts during my undergraduate career at Stony Brook University. There, I spent many years painting, drawing, sculpting, and generally creating. My Fine Arts training helped me throughout my graduate career as well, as I was able to combine digital and hand-crafting techniques in order to to explore non-traditional forms of architectural representation. My final M.Arch thesis combined various artistic practices, including photography, image transfer, collage, and painting, while also utilizing the visual standards of architectural drawings to propose a radical and expressive transformation of an existing neighborhood.

My professional experience as an architectural draftsperson at James J. Stout Architect and Associates, located in Commack, New York, further complements my architectural background. My time there gave me hands-on experience drafting construction documents required for permitting by local municipalities across Long Island. This role gave me insight into interpreting zoning ordinances and working with the various parties required in residential architecture, including licensed architects, clients, contractors, building inspectors, zoning board members, etc. Both my educational training and work experience has prepared me for the complexities of the design process and the collaborative nature of the field. I am able to work in teams in order to accomplish large scale projects that go beyond the vision/ design abilities of one single person. My time as a draftsperson also refined my technical skills.  Learning 2D and 3D digital visualization tools only helped me with my process of reimagining architectural drawings through an artistic lens.

Through exposure to various art and design studio environments, I have seen firsthand how collective input generates more thoughtful projects and stimulates personal growth as a designer. I am eager to use these skills to engage with other creative professionals in the future.
